Arming Teachers Is Just Plain Nuts..... Well, we've had another school shooting recently. 17 murdered in a Florida high school. The details are pretty standard. A depressed and mentally unstable kid goes to his old school with an assault rifle, and takes lives and changes families forever. Behave children. Or else! The only thing different this time is that the debate over this problem has continued for over 2 days. This shooting occurred in a high school. The survivors are a little older, and a little more verbal and active with their protests. These sort of things usually end with a candlelight vigil. But no. This time they did interviews, gave speeches, staged school walkouts, and met with politicians. This has led to a number of ideas floated for solving the school shooting crisis. Our President has come up with the idea of arming the classroom teachers. He thinks they would've "shot the hell" out of the school shooter. My opinion is that that would be

Does Swimsuit Issue Send A Mixed Message?..... Let's see....What should I write about today? How about another school shooting? Nah. Just wrote about that a couple of weeks ago. Only the names change. How about the fact that the President is more worried about defending himself from attack, than defending our nation from attack? Nah. It's a strange world when you know you're smarter than the President of the United States. How about hot young ladies? Yeah, let's go with that. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue arrived in my mailbox this week. I consider it the first sign of Spring. Spring is still a number of weeks away, but when this magazine comes, you know it's on the way. Ronda Rousey in body paint. For 55 years now, Sports Illustrated has been sending beautiful young models to a beach for a photo shoot. They always try to break ground finding new ways to feature the women in bikinis. Even body painting. Over the years, some of the models

The Olympics Have Lost Their Luster..... I used to really enjoy watching the Olympics. Everything from the opening ceremonies, and the parade of nations, to the closing ceremonies. I would even enjoy the Winter Olympics which include sports that many of us in the United States are not too familiar with. I'll still watch, buy I'll do it with skeptical attitude. Not so much for the athletes. But for the whole corrupt process. Back in the day, the Olympic Games were all about amateurism. Only amatuer athletes were allowed to compete. This was the amatuer athlete's one shining moment. Maybe there wasn't much money in the actual competitions they were in. But there was the dream of Olympic gold. There was something pure about it. Strict rules made sure about this. One of America's greatest athletes was Jim Thorpe. He won gold for track and field events in the 1912 Olympics. But it was discovered that when he was in college, he played semi-pro baseball one summer a

Super Bowl I Was From A Different Era..... Today is Super Bowl Sunday. It's basically a national holiday. In fact, there will be a 6 hour pre-game show televised today. Justin Timberlake will entertain at halftime, and new commercials worth millions will be shown. Super Bowl LII, (that's 52 for those of you that are rusty with roman numerals.) will be played indoors in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I'm sure I've watched most of them. Even the first one. I was just a kid not even near high school yet. It didn't used to be such a big deal. The first Super Bowl wasn't even called the Super Bowl. It was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. The Name Super Bowl and the roman numerals came later. The first one was played on January 15, 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It bore little resemblance to the national spectacle that will take place today. Here's how it came to be. The National Football League started in 1920. For decades it was just a str
