Chuck Berry: The End of an Era..... Sometimes the word great is used too often. It should be reserved for something truly special. There are great Presidents on Mt. Rushmore. There are great players in the Hall of Fame. Yet, in the case of Chuck Berry, the word great doesn't begin to cover it. He may have invented Rock and Roll. Chuck Berry - Hail. Hail Rock and Roll. I learned of the passing of Chuck Berry while checking my smartphone and having dinner with friends at a restaurant. I immediately felt that it signaled the end of an era. When somebody so ingrained with a style or part of history passes, it's a major news item. Like when Frank Sinatra or Bob Hope passed away, that type of entertainment passed away too. I can't think of any other people of his generation that had such an effect on popular music. He was 90 years old. Berry gave his first public performance while a high school student in St. Louis. By the early 1950's he was developing a unique gui

My Favorite Apps..... I recently got a new phone and I have to say I'm impressed with it. It's got the latest processor, the latest software, plenty of memory, and a 20 megapixel camera, (that I'm still learning how to use.) I had my old phone for several years, and it wouldn't stay charged very long. But the biggest problem was it was out of memory capacity. To try to extend its life, I dumped things that I didn't use much and stored pictures to "the cloud". But even then I still couldn't update apps or store things I wanted. Now that I've got my new phone, I'm relearning the pleasure of using some of these applications. Flash Seat souvenir ticket stub. I list here some of the ones I think are pretty cool. I'm not going to list social media apps like Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. They're in a whole other category. At best, they're used for communication. At worst, - well, I won't get into that. You either like and

Picking Out My Cavaliers Seats..... Frequent readers of this blog will remember I am a member of Wine & Gold United. That is the ticket plan group membership for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The story of how I became a member goes back a few years. Originally I just wanted to get tickets to the 2015 NBA Finals. At first, I was shut out trying to get them. But I later discovered I could still get a Finals ticket by purchasing a ticket plan for the following season. I've been a WGU member ever since. I had a 10 game plan for the 2015-16 season. My seats were high in the upper bowl and on the baseline. But they were lucky seats. I watched 2 fantastic Finals games from them last season, and won them both. Great memories. I was also a member of a winning bar trivia team. The name I gave the team was "Section 202". Although they weren't the best seats, they were pretty economical. In addition, the Cavs can spread your payments out monthly on your credit card. The Cavs a

My New Phone..... It's amazing how much we use our cell phones these days. We use them to text, email, take pictures, follow the news, and socialize. On rare occasion I even use my phone for a voice call. It goes everywhere I go, just like underwear. So picking a new one for personal use is no small decision. Especially for me. You see - I'm not an iphone guy. The iphone is the most popular series of phones on the planet. I know they're great phones. Whenever I asked my friends for a suggestion they would say to get an iphone. But for some reason I don't like to follow the crowd on something so popular. I wasn't a big fan of the Beatles either when I was young. I just prefer to look for an undiscovered gem. The same with cell phones. (Are they still called cell phones? Maybe mobile phone is the term to use.) My new award-winning ZTE Axon. My old phone was different too. It was an unlocked phone from a company called Blu.When it was new it was pretty much  a
