Without A Native American Logo – The Name Indians Is Racist Before I begin, I feel I should put my cards on the table. I am a lifelong Clevelander. I'm also a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan. I grew up with Chief Wahoo. There may be thousands of Chief Wahoo images in my house. Growing up in the 50's and 60's Westerns were a very popular television program format. It was common to feature Native Americans (referred to back then as Indians) on those shows. The characteristics those people showed were that they were fierce, brave, and honorable. To me at the time those were good characteristics for my favorite baseball team to emulate. I considered Chief Wahoo to just be a cartoon. I never felt he truly represented anybody or anything other than the baseball team. The Chief has been diminished in the last few years. One of my favorite memories of Chief Wahoo were the daily cartoons of the Chief in the Plain Dealer years ago. The Chief would be depicted as ha

Attention Moms: Pack A Kevlar Vest with your Kid's Lunch..... Last week on January 23rd, a boy and girl, both 15 years old were shot and killed at their school in Benton, Kentucky. 18 were injured. The shooter was also 15 years old, Maybe you heard about it. That one made the news. Not all of them do. The scene at Benton, Kentucky. Number 11 and counting. That marked the 11th school shooting this year. Not the school year. Just 2018.  That's 23 days. For people that keep count, there has been an average of one school shooting per week since 2013. In 2018, we are on pace for about 145 school shooting incidents. Of course, not all of them are "news worthy". Some are suicides. Sometimes, the shooter misses people. I guess that's not news. But if I was a young kid and saw a kid that had killed themselves in my school restroom, it would be news to me. I don't think I would be visiting that restroom anymore. School shootings have become routine. They ar

What Would Your Tattoo Say..... The subject of tattoos is pretty controversial. You either love 'em or hate 'em.  They are also generational. Back in the day, the only people that had tattoos were bikers. Also, no woman you wanted to talk to had a tattoo. But that's all changed now. Starting about 20 years ago, tattoos became stylish, even fashionable. I don't know what started the popularity. I imagine it's just another way to express your individuality. Many people in the military have tattoos to memorialize the bond for their branch of service. Others have something to remember a member of their family. Still others have a Bible verse. Now, it's not uncommon to have artwork in general injected into your skin. They are so popular now it's now more common for people of a certain age to have a tattoo than not. When I was younger, my generation didn't get tattoos. Instead, we grew long hair and some type of facial hair to express yourself. It was

Too Hot, Or Too Cold - Your Choice..... This is the tale of two cities. Both of them are nice most of the year. But in one of them, you can suffer in the extreme cold, and the other extreme heat. Tough to enjoy the lake in the winter. I have lived in Northeast Ohio my whole life. Most of the time it's very pleasant. In late winter / early spring you can get tired of the gray days. But most of the year it's nice. I can even tolerate some of the winter. But recently we have had extreme arctic weather. It has not been above the freezing point since Christmas Eve. Most of the time we have suffered through single digit temperatures. When the wind blows you get below zero wind chills. Most things just don't work well in those temperatures. There are three cars in my household. Last night, mine was the one that stayed out in the driveway. So this morning my doors were frozen shut. Things like that can put a crimp in your plans. As far as clothes, forget style. Most pe
