Start A New Christmas Tradition Today!.....

Twas the day before Christmas and all through the house, there was happiness. Because families are coming together. The shopping is done. Most of the presents are wrapped. It's about time for the main event. It's time to roll out those family traditions.

After all, family traditions are what the holidays are all about. They may make you laugh or moan, but it wouldn't be the holiday season in your family without them. They may have been started years ago by your crazy aunt or uncle, but they seem here to stay. The important thing is that they carry on.

This Christmas may be unique in some ways. Some families may have lost a family member this year. Some families may have added a member to their celebration. The traditions tie it together. They give your family a sense of continuity. You can say, "This is the (insert your family name here) family. and this is how we celebrate Christmas!"

And look appreciative of those special gifts!
Unfortunately, sometimes traditions can die away. That always makes me sad. Traditions are such a big part of family celebrations, and your memories. Look at old pictures from Christmas Past and you'll see what your missing. Maybe you can change that today.

How about if you start your own, new family Christmas tradition today. It doesn't matter what it is. Gather everybody around and tell a story. Sing a song together. Play a game. Give out hugs at a specific time. Whatever you want.

The key thing is that is repeated next year. More than once makes it a tradition. You know your new tradition has made it when somebody mentions it during the year. Or if somebody younger takes over. Imagine your younger cousins groaning when somebody shouts, "It's time for so-and-so's Christmas tradition!"

It's your family. You should know what would be good. My only suggestion would be turn off the tv and smartphones. Traditions are for people, not technology. So have a wonderful time starting your new tradition.

And Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
