Friendsgiving Is Here.....

Well folks, we've made it through the summer. We've also made it through the enjoyable part of fall. It's November and the weather you forgot about all summer is back. One of the few things I look forward to this time of year are the holidays.

The stores have had Christmas decorations up for some time now. Radio stations will soon be playing Christmas songs all day and all night. Some gifts have already been purchased. Black Friday is this week. But intelligent shoppers, like me, will do their shopping online. This week the holidays kick off with Thanksgiving. But my family gets an extra day of celebration - Friendsgiving.

Friendsgiving is just like Thanksgiving, but with some special friends. Thursday we will still be going over relatives houses for turkey with all the trimmings. It will be a great time. But this Wednesday, I will be celebrating at my house with my family and some special friends. Therefore - Friendsgiving!

The menu for Friendsgiving is the same as the next day, turkey, dressing, potatoes, pies, the works. The only difference is our friends are there. I often say your friends are your choice. Your relatives have no choice. They are your relatives because of the luck of biology. You may look like some of your relatives. But they are who they are. You may not even be friends with all of your relatives. That's what leads to holiday stress. Your friends are entirely who you choose. Good people - Good times!

You choose your friends for one reason or another. But one basic requirement is that you enjoy being with them. You've been through the good times and maybe helped them through a bad time. They are in your heart. They can make you smile and laugh. Some times I can make my friends laugh just by saying a few words to remind them of an incident in the past.

One thing you would never call your true friends are acquaintances. Everybody has tons of acquaintances. But if you really think about it, only a handful of true friends.

So this Thursday, everyone will be saying things they are thankful for. I have tons of things to bee thankful for. But one of those things are my friends.
Enjoy your friends, enjoy your family, enjoy the food!
