Does Dwyane Wade Fit On the Cavaliers?.....

It seems odd to ask if Dwyane Wade fits on the Cavaliers. The dude is a 3-time NBA Champion. A Finals MVP, a former NBA scoring champ, and a 12 time NBA All Star team member. Most
DWade - welcome to The Land.
importantly, he's probably Lebron James best friend. So what's not to like?

The problem is, in addition to being 35 years old, the game may have passed him by. He still has skills, and is in fantastic shape. But the NBA game in the last few years has evolved into a 3-point shooting contest. The long distance shot has taken on a prime focus for most clubs. The Cavaliers even won their championship with a 3-point shot. But Wade is not a good 3-point shooter at all. In fact, statistically he got worse at it last season.

Myrna Loy - trouble with "the talkies."
Dwyane Wade may become the Myrna Loy of the NBA. Myrna Loy was a beautiful, young actress in the 1920's. She was a star of silent movies. Yet, when movies were transitioning from silent features to "talkies". She didn't understand why people would want to hear actors talk. She complained that studios should train actors better on how to talk. Wade, while still a fine player, is approaching the end of his playing career and it is unlikely he will become a good shooter now.

To make matters worse, Wade could be paired in the backcourt with reclamation project Derrick Rose, a former league MVP. Rose is only 28 years old. But he has the knees of a 50 year old. He has been injured frequently. But even when healthy, Rose is not a good long distance shooter either. The defenses would sag off both Wade and Rose, daring them to shoot. This would also clog up the interior.

Defense dares Wade to shoot a 3.
The incumbent at Wade's position is JR Smith. While JR is a fine player, and has improved his defensive play, he is not the overall player Dwyane Wade is. But JR is a far superior long distance
shooter than Wade. JR is one of the best in league history at that.

So this becomes a touchy issue. Wade is a future Hall of Famer. Do you ask Lebron's best friend if he's OK with coming off the bench? That's what I would do. NBA stars have big egos. but the only thing bigger is their desire to win a championship. Besides starting is overrated. It really matters who is around at the crucial part of the game near the end. It's a game of match ups. I think Wade, Lebron, Rose, and others will figure out what's best for the team to win. They are very smart basketball players. And smart players can figure it out.

This seasons Cavaliers, on paper, may be the deepest NBA team, EVER. But the games aren't played on paper. There will be plenty of hard work, sweat, and strategy before we even get to the playoffs.

So here's my prediction for the 2017-18 Cleveland Cavaliers. There will be plenty of drama. But in the end - we'll be dancin' in the streets!
