News Flash: Hollywood Is A Sleazy Place.....

Harvey Weinstein is/was a powerful movie producer. He co-founded Miramax Films and the Weinstein Company. But he is also a very sleazy guy. He was involved in movies like Pulp Fiction, Shakespeare in Love, Silver Linings Playbook, and many more. He was also probably involved with some of the women in those movies. Not by their choice.

I don't want to put a picture of the sleazy
Guy in my blog. But here's some good movies of his.
All hell has broken out in Hollywood because it has been revealed that Weinstein has been forcing himself on these women - for years. Every day stories have been coming out of everything from sexual assault to rape. Everyone from Angelina Jolie to Gwyneth Paltrow has stories about him.

Weinstein has become such a pariah that he has been fired from his own company. That's hard to do. He has been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. So no more red carpet for him.

My question would be why now? I would imagine this has been going on with producers for decades. That doesn't make it right. But it's a "tale as old as time." As long as there are powerful men in that  industry, along with women with more ambition than scruples, women have been taken advantage of. The women are either embarassed, ashamed, or just think that's the way it is in Hollywood.

Another good movie.
Weinstein says he is sick, and is seeking counseling. I think his sickness is that he is too powerful. He can seriously affect the lives of the young women he advances on. Some for the good, mostly for the bad.

Maybe because of this young actresses will now have the courage to speak out when things don't seem right. Maybe it's time for more women producers. Maybe some day the "casting couch" will just be part of Hollywood history. But don't hold your breath. Some traditions die hard.

This event reminds me of a story when a Hollywood producer wouldn't give a move part to Johnny Fontane because he had stolen the producers young lover. Tom Hagen stopped the producer from "horsing around". Fans of The Godfather will understand.
